A grateful Scottish couple who worked as key workers were thrilled to scoop £5M on the National Lottery! Paul and Louise Drake, 47, from West Lothian, who were working throughout the pandemic and have now landed a life-changing jackpot. The Family of 4 including 2 sons, 15 and 11, with Paul recently leaving his job as a Production Operator at the supermarket chain Lidl and Louise who is a district nurse.

For the golf and car fanatic the discovery of his life-changing winnings certainly gave him the early morning kick he needed as he prepared to head out for work, He said: “I car share with two colleagues, and it was my turn to do the driving so i had to be up and ready

“It was about 4:30am; I then got this overwhelming urge to check my Lotto numbers which i had done as a Lucky Dip. I checked my ticket and just sat there in complete disbelief. “I’m not an emotional sort of person but I just stop myself bursting into tears. I ran back into the house shouting my wife’s name and woke Louise up to tell her. We just couldn’t believe it.

“As I was the designated driver that day I still had to go and pick up the guys for work. It was so hard to keep it to myself. I went into the office and just said I wouldn’t be able to come in that day”.

“The people who I drove to work that day knew something was up and that I was acting strangely so it wasn’t long before people figured out my secret news. Our friends, family and colleagues are over the moon for us, they’re really chuffed, which is great.” Louise went into panic mode when Paul rushed into the house at the crack of dawn, immediately thinking something was wrong and immediately thought the worst.

Paul added: “We’ve both worked hard all our lives, as did our parents before us. This money is absolutely life changing, and it will help our lives dramatically from a financial perspective, but we won’t let it change who we are.

“Normally I am quite organised with my playing my numbers but this time, I must’ve been in a rush, probably getting 1 of the boys to an activity! “I ended up just asking for three Lucky Dips.

It comes hours after it was revealed two NHS front line workers Linda & Stewart Priston from Kent scooped £300k on the Lottery, which is fantastic news!

A family have landed a £1 million EuroMillions win -This amazing jackpot win can now allow planning to help transform and enhance their family life of their young disabled son who was born with scoliosis.

The Devonshire family, say the jackpot means they can buy a bigger house and car to help care for their youngest aged nine child, who also suffers from associated conditions, and needs hospital support and regular trips to Birmingham.

The win will also mean a bigger car for the couple, which will make their regular 300-mile round trips to Birmingham a lot more comfortable. Neil, 50, and Sue, 51, have three kids – and thought the win, after the draw on Friday March 5, 2021, was a joke at first, we just never thought we could win this kind of money to help us as a family.

Neil, who is a builder’s merchant, I don’t check after every draw only when i remember and only got around to it later on that week. Sue had gone to work, and the children were upstairs, so I thought I’d check to see if I needed to put on a line for the next week. When I logged into my online account, I immediately saw a message which said, ‘Congratulations you’ve won £1M’. “I thought no way and called my daughter to re-read it. We both thought it couldn’t be real, even though it was clearly on the official app. She posted on our family group chat that Dad had won the lottery and Sue came back saying it was probably just a fiver”.

Not discouraged patiently Neil was up early to open the local builder’s merchant where he works. “I wasn’t going to stay in bed and leave them in the lurch, what if I was wrong about the win?” Neil called the official claims line to be told you are correct you are a millionaire and, after letting Sue know the good news, he went back to work to complete his shift.

The couple admitted to being excited but remained very calm until everything was finalised and in their account. Once the money was cleared in the bank the following week, the pair popped the Champagne and celebrated their amazing luck. Neil said: “We’ve never struggled for money, we have always been careful, but this will make such a difference to us as a family. “While they will stay local, the new home means more space to support and help him as he grows up, entertain their grandchild and support their own parents as they get older.

Neil said: “People have said, ‘well done, it couldn’t happen to a nicer family’, that it is nice to see ordinary people win, which is all lovely to hear.

“But the win, and especially the new home, will make a difference to our whole family for years to come, and that is so important.”

Grant and Taryn Hawkes lives have changed after scooping the Lotto Millionaire Raffle jackpot, revealing they left mystery gifts at food banks during lockdown – and they have never forgotten the help they received and have been giving back to their community.

A kind-hearted couple who were once so poor their friends bought their children shoes have revealed how they have left mystery gifts at food banks during lockdown to show their gratitude. The Hawkes couple, from Newquay, Cornwall, scooped £1m on the Lotto Millionaire Raffle win two years ago. It could not have come at a better time for the struggling couple and their children Holly, 14 and Ethan, 11. Husband Grant, 43, had been diagnosed with a muscle disease and had to give up work as an electrician meaning the family had to get by on 42-year-old Taryn’s meagre wage as a teaching assistant.

She said: “Colleagues were offering us shoes for the children, food parcels and the odd fiver to help us pay bills. It was such a tough time – I remember walking into the supermarket with £5 for the week, wondering how I could buy enough food for the children.” We were even able to treat our son to an Xbox after our win and he couldn’t believe he could keep it and that it was his.

However the couple have never forgotten the help they received and – particularly over the pandemic lockdown – they’ve been giving back to their community. Taryn revealed: “We leave gift cards behind shop counters for other people who are struggling, we’ve given money to food banks, bought a high chair for a local domestic violence charity and we’ve helped friends who have lost their jobs during the pandemic. “We’ve also helped the causes which once supported us in our time of need.”

Following the win, thoughts quickly turned to Grant’s health – and the win enabled him to have private Yoga classes and hydrotherapy, both of which have helped enormously. A change in diet to healthy, home cooked food was also a factor that allowed him to take his first painful steps without crutches three months after the win.

Grant said: “Just not having to worry about money made such a huge difference. “We bought a new car, a VW camper van with plenty of room for surf boards and last October, we went on our first ever foreign holiday – an all-inclusive trip to Majorca which was Taryn and the children’s first time on a plane.”

A school dinner lady who scooped a £1m lottery win said she had no plans to give up the day job.

Karen Dakin, 53, from Nacton near Ipswich, has worked all throughout the pandemic helping to look after the children of key workers. She said matching five main numbers and a bonus ball – will allow her family to have the money to buy a house.

“I have absolutely no plans to give up being a dinner lady – I love my job, the school and all the kids,” she said. Her lucky numbers were the ones she had always used and were based on her son Callum’s date and time of birth.

“When I called the National Lottery line, I remember the man on the other end of the phone saying ‘you’re rather calm!’, after he’d just confirmed the life-changing news,” said Mrs Dakin. “I guess I was just in a state of absolute shock!”

The lucky winner said it had been a tough couple of years for her family after her husband, Jeff, 60, had a serious stroke in November 2018. “All of my family were amazing, as was the school where I work during the toughest of years, and I am looking forward to celebrating with all of them as soon as it is safe to do so,” she said.

The couple, who have been married for 35 years, have already started looking at properties to buy. “We love the area so will stay local but it’ll mean so much – more space for us all and the peace of mind of having no mortgage. It’s amazing,” said Mrs Dakin.

They are also planning a holiday for when it is safe to travel again. “We’ve never been able to afford a holiday before and Callum has never actually been on one,” said Mrs Dakin.

“After the time we’ve all been through we’d love to get away – maybe Center Parcs before a big trip to Disneyworld in Florida.”

A very lucky £105M winner made an interesting choice: He decided to keep working instead of living a luxurious lifestyle...

Months after his jackpot win, Steve still works as a builder – After his win the builder promised not to let his customers down: but for what reason?

The new multi-millionaires told the Mirror newspaper after their win that they would take a couple of weeks holiday but intend to continue working. Thomson called the Jackpot win ‘really overwhelming’, which is very understandable. Steve and his wife Lenka say the money is ‘too much’ for them. The couple want to do a lot of good things with the money and, in his own words, Steve is going to be ‘sensibly generous’, he goes on to say he was ‘on the verge of having a heart attack’ when he realised he had matched all seven numbers after his win!

Mr Steve Thomson and his wife, shopworker Lenka, 41, said they plan to buy a new home so their children 8-year-old daughter & two sons aged 10 and 15 can finally have their own bedrooms. He also said the couple had made no big purchases as yet, just window shopping – although he did admit he went and bought himself a new shirt and had a haircut for when he was presented with the cheque.

A friend and neighbour of the family, Ellie Wood, 42, said: ‘Steve and his wife are salt of the earth. I’m not surprised that Steve is continuing to finish off work he had already on his books – that’s just the type of guy he is. He’d never leave anyone in the lurch’.

‘I’m just a normal guy and I don’t want this to change me. I’m a man of my word and I promised I would complete the work so that’s what I will do.’ While he was working on a customers porch, a neighbour enquired about having a new front door fitted at their home too. ‘Steve was happy enough to take on new work and made an appointment to visit the man’s address,’ an onlooker said.

Two winning Lotto tickets sold in Ireland have won close to €500,000 between them from the 12th October draw.

Two Irish lottery winners scooped a grand prize between them on the Lotto draw last week. The winners came from Kerry and Cork in Ireland. They played in two different draws.

Subsequently, they won a massive €493,365 between them.

The one in Kerry…

The lottery winner from Kerry scooped the top prize of €250,000 on the Lotto Plus 2 draw. The winning ticket was bought in Garvey’s Supervalu Tralee, Lower Rock Street in Tralee, Co. Kerry.

The Lotto Plus 2 numbers were: 05, 12, 20, 33, 42, 43 and the bonus number was 15.

The one in Cork…

Additionally, a Cork ticket-holder came close to hitting the €4,091,940 Lotto jackpot. However, they won €243,365 after matching five numbers and the bonus ball. The lottery winner in Cork bought their ticket at the Mace store in Mayfield Shopping Centre, Silversprings, Cork City.

The Lotto draw numbers were: 01, 23, 27, 33, 42, 44 and the bonus was 31.

Who are they?

The pair have not yet been identified. A spokesperson for the National Lottery said: “We are advising all our Kerry and Cork players to carefully check their tickets.

There were no winners of the Lotto jackpot. Therefore, it will roll on to an estimated €4.5m for the next draw this Wednesday.

Furthermore, it’s the second stroke of luck for Ireland in 24 hours after a EuroMillions Plus prize, worth €500,000 was won on Friday’s draw.

The Irish lottery has been running since March 23, 1987, making it the largest of the national lotteries.

Lottery winners divorce 8 years after winning £161m. Colin and Christine Weir from Largs, Ayshire, confirmed in a statement that they have been living apart “for some time”.

The couple who won Britain’s biggest lottery jackpot is “divorcing amicably” – eight years after scooping £161m.

Colin Weir, 71, and Christine, 62, confirmed in a statement that they have been living apart “for some time”.

The former TV cameraman and former psychiatric nurse, made The Sunday Times Rich List when they won the EuroMillions in 2011.

The pair from Largs, Ayrshire, have been married for more than 30 years and have two grown-up children.

They set up The Weir Charitable Trust in 2013 and made a donation to a community football club in their local town, and also invested in the Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle FC.

Their cash led to the youth set-up being rebranded the Thistle Weir Youth Academy and a section of their Firhill Stadium being named the Colin Weir Stand.

They also defended making a donation of £1m to the independence campaign ahead of the 2014 referendum. They continued donating to the Scottish National Party (SNP) afterward.

A statement issued to The Scottish Sun. It said: “It is with deep regret that Chris and Colin confirm they have been living apart for some time and intend to divorce amicably.

“There will be no further comment.”

Patrick and Frances Connolly from County Armagh in Northern Ireland won a £115m EuroMillions jackpot on 4 January.

Hereford factory worker Ade Goodchild won a £71m EuroMillions jackpot in March and celebrated with a takeaway pizza.

He said: “I’m not one of these winners who is going to say this win won’t change me.

“It bloody well will, or at least I’ll give it a damn good go! There’ll be no more shift work for me.”

Interesting right? Do you think having money can put more of a strain on a relationship than not having money? Play the lottery at Welovetto today and find out for yourself.

South Gloucestershire couple who became UK’s oldest lottery winners moves into a budget hotel while their modest home is renovated.

A couple from South Gloucestershire, who became UK’s oldest lottery winners, moves into a budget hotel while their modest home is renovated.

They opted to stay in their unassuming three-bedroom home of 57 years, which is being done up.

Britain’s oldest lottery winners say the £18million windfall “hasn’t changed” them and they have gifted or given most of the cash away.

Modest Dennis Banfield, 87, and wife Shirley, 83, hit the jackpot in February, bagging £18,139,352 on a lottery ticket purchased from their local newsagents in the South Gloucestershire village of Winterbourne.

But they opted to stay in their unassuming three-bedroom home of 57 years – which they paid just £2k for in 1961.

The couple, who have been married for 61 years, is spending some of the winnings on having the inside of their “dream” house completely renovated.

The Banfields have been living at a local budget hotel in Bristol, since August 12, where rooms cost just £66 per night.

But they say they are looking forward to returning to their Winterbourne home for a quiet Christmas with their family, including the two daughters they split their winnings with.

The Win Hasn’t Changed Who They Are

Speaking outside the hotel on Wednesday, Shirley said…

“We decided to stay in the house, and just have the whole of the inside of it completely redone.

“We’ve been there for 57 years now. We know the area, the house is not overlooked, it’s got a lovely big driveway.

“We’ve been staying here at the Hilton since August 12. However, we’re near to our house so we’ve gone back to see it as it’s been done up.

“There’s still a bit of a way to go on it, but we’re hoping to move back in within the next fortnight.

“We’ll definitely be back in time for Christmas.”

Earlier this week, a builder outside the couple’s home said…

“They’ve gone to stay at a hotel while we’re working here renovating the place.”

The front garden is currently full of fittings that have been torn out for the renovations.

The Banfields would not comment on what they had treated themselves inside their newly-renovated home. It has a current estimated market value of £316,000.

Giving For Christmas

But the generous couple has given away large sums of their £6million share of the winnings. The winnings have been spread to various charities, including Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Shirley said: “We’ve given a lot of it away in lump sums.

And Dennis, who will be 88 on December 11, added: “It doesn’t mean anything to us, really. It just means a lot to us to know that our daughters are looked after.”

The couple also bought five of the Wallace and Gromit statues that were dotted around Bristol for a month. They were sold at The Grand Appeal auction – with the money going directly to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

They plan to donate one of the statues, a penguin, back to Bristol Children’s Hospital where it was originally displayed. This will be done in a presentation on December 11 – Dennis’ 88th birthday.

The couple added that they are considering giving some of their winnings to the staff at the Hilton hotel. Shirley saying: “We see the staff here almost like family now.”

Mick Tyler and fiancée Sarah Harmer scooped an amazing £1M the lottery raffle just a day before they were off to Portugal on holiday. They have used the money to bring their wedding date forward.

A newly-engaged couple who scooped £1million in the National Lottery have revealed the huge fright they endured when claiming the cash.

Mick Tyler, 35, and fiancée Sarah Harmer, 33, from Snodland near Maidstone, couldn’t believe it when they got an email saying they’d bagged the life-changing amount.

But when they rang the National Lottery to claim their winnings, the call centre adviser said there had been a mistake, reports Kent Live.

Mick explained: “He said ‘oh no, no you haven’t won’. I looked at Sarah and I was like ‘oh’.

“And then he said ‘oh sorry, it’s my mistake, I was looking at the wrong date’ and he said ‘yeah I can confirm you’ve won £1million’.”

The couple then started screaming, shouting and hugging.

Today they celebrated the news at the same beach where they got engaged. They are using the money for a deposit on a new home. They have brought their wedding date forward by a year.

“This is all so utterly mad and yet so flipping brilliant,” Mick said.

Air conditioning engineer Mick bought his ticket online for the draw on Saturday, September 29.

Mick was having dinner at a local pub with his family the same day. He saw he had an email from the National Lottery.

He couldn’t log in to his online account due to poor signal and showed the email to his dad who told him ‘it’s probably only a few quid’, so he put his phone away.

Mick said: “When we got home I logged on again and saw an email announcing I’d won £1million.

“I showed Sarah who immediately got the numbers up on the TV and cross-referenced to the winning Lotto Millionaire Raffle code.”

Mick’s online account explained that he needed to call the National Lottery to claim his win. The contact centre was not open until 8 am the next day.

Mick said: “We were like ‘let’s not get completely carried away’, so we just had to wait.

“It was like, at 8 am we are going to know for definite.

“We couldn’t believe it. We were on the phone to our family. My family came straight over.
